The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive to all headteachers of Senior High Schools, instructing them not to summon final-year students back to school for the completion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration. The decision comes amidst concerns that some students were being called back during their vacation period to finalize their exam registrations.
Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, emphasized that final-year students should not be asked to return to school for registration purposes. He assured that when classes resume on Wednesday, April 17th, students will be given ample time to complete the registration process.
“We want to say unequivocally that no student should be asked to come back to school to complete the WASSCE registration. The reason is that by the time they come back to school on 17th April, they will have enough time to be able to complete their registration,” stated Dr. Nkansah.
He underscored the importance of ensuring that students are not inconvenienced, particularly those who reside far from school and are currently enjoying their vacation at home. Dr. Nkansah emphasized the collaboration between the GES and the West African Examination Council to facilitate a smooth registration process.
Addressing concerns about potential increases in the WASSCE registration fee, which currently stands at GH₵465, Dr. Nkansah clarified that students under the Free SHS (Senior High School) program are exempt from registration fees as the program covers their registration expenses.
