The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a response to the recent strike action declared by Teacher Unions within the Pre-Tertiary Education sector. The strike, effective from Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, has raised concerns about the conditions of service for teachers and unresolved issues with the Ministry of Education and GES.
In a letter dated March 20th, 2024, the GES management acknowledged the reasons behind the strike, which include delays in negotiating the collective agreement, the absence of a functional scheme of service for teachers, and the incomplete distribution of laptops to all teachers, among other grievances.
Addressing the situation, GES has instructed Heads of Schools to keep schools open despite the strike and ensure the safety of students who choose to attend classes, while awaiting further directives from GES management.
Meanwhile, parents have been urged to remain calm, with assurances from GES that the issues prompting the strike action will be addressed promptly and effectively.
