The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
In a press release issued on July 29, 2026, WAEC said the results have been dispatched to schools through the respective Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates may also access their results online through the Council’s official website.
According to WAEC, 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the examination. The figure comprises 304,415 males and 315,828 females.
The Council said the candidates included 136 persons with visual impairment, 282 with hearing assessment needs, and 510 candidates with other test accommodation needs. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, while 3,601 candidates were absent.
601 Candidates Lose Results Over Malpractice
Following investigations into examination irregularities, WAEC approved sanctions against candidates found to have engaged in malpractice.
The Council announced the cancellation of subject results of 496 candidates and the cancellation of the entire results of 105 candidates.
In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
WAEC also disclosed that the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny. The Council said the withheld results will either be released or cancelled after investigations are completed by August 31, 2026.
How to Check Withheld or Cancelled Results
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to visit https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the “withheld/cancelled” button on the homepage.
According to WAEC, the portal will redirect candidates to the irregularity and investigations page, where they can view the reasons for the action taken against their results. Candidates with withheld results will also receive information on the next steps, while heads of schools and proprietors can use their results listing login credentials to check the status of affected candidates.
WAEC Warns Against Fraudsters
The Council cautioned candidates and the general public to be wary of fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results for a fee.
WAEC stressed that its examination results are secure and can be authenticated, urging candidates not to fall victim to such scams.
The Council also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for their support in the successful conduct of the examination and the release of the results.
