The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has held talks with the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, on strengthening sports development and expanding international collaboration to support young talent in Ghana.
The meeting took place at the Education Ministry, where Mr Adams was joined by Bill Smith, Executive Director of Athletics at Bryant University.
According to Mr Adams, Mr Smith was in Ghana to conclude arrangements connected to preparations for hosting Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States.
During the meeting, Mr Smith reaffirmed Bryant University’s commitment to supporting young people with sporting talent and helping them develop their abilities for greater opportunities.
Responding, Mr Iddrisu welcomed the initiative and described it as a timely step that could help revive inter-schools and colleges sporting competitions across the country.
He said such partnerships could create important opportunities to identify, nurture and develop talented young people through organised sports.
The Education Minister also assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to work with partners to promote youth development through sports.
He stressed that investing in the talents of young people would not only empower them but also contribute to national development.
The discussions reflect growing interest in using partnerships between education and sports institutions to create stronger pathways for young people in both academics and athletics.
