Management of Bolgatanga Technical Institute has directed all third-year male students to leave campus immediately following security concerns over a possible attack on school property.
The order was issued by the Upper East Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, after intelligence reports pointed to a planned attack on key infrastructure at the institute.
Addressing students and staff on Wednesday, the Regional Minister said the directive was a preventive step to protect lives and public property.
He expressed concern over what he described as repeated unrest and destruction of property at the school.
According to him, the authorities received credible intelligence that some students were planning to trigger disturbances that could lead to violent clashes.
He warned that such a situation could result in injuries or loss of life if urgent steps were not taken.
Mr Atanga acknowledged that the decision would affect academic work, but said it had become necessary under the circumstances.
He also cautioned students against defying the directive, saying failure to comply could affect their opportunity to sit their upcoming examinations.
The development has raised concerns about safety and discipline at the institute, as authorities move to prevent further unrest.
