The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has declared 15 learning centres and campuses of some tertiary institutions as unaccredited and named 36 other institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired.
In a public notice dated July 8, 2026, the Commission cautioned prospective students, parents and guardians to verify the accreditation status of institutions, learning centres and academic programmes directly with GTEC before applying for admission.
The 15 unaccredited learning centres and campuses include:
- University of Ghana Learning Centre, Koforidua
- University of Ghana Learning Centre, Cape Coast
- University of Ghana Learning Centre, Tamale
- University of Ghana Learning Centre, Ho/Tsito
- University of Ghana Learning Centre, Wa
- University of Ghana Learning Centre, Bolgatanga
- University of Ghana Learning Centre, Sunyani
- University of Education, Winneba Learning Centre at Jayee University College, Accra
- University of Education, Winneba Learning Centre at St. Theresa’s College, Anaji-Takoradi
- University for Development Studies Learning Centre at Wa
- University for Development Studies Learning Centre at Chereponi
- Takoradi Technical University, Akatakyi Campus
- Takoradi Technical University, Butumagyebi Campus
- Methodist University Ghana, Tema Campus
- Methodist University Ghana, Wenchi Campus
GTEC said enrolling in unaccredited institutions or learning centres poses significant risks, including the possible loss of time, financial resources and future career opportunities.
The Commission also listed 36 institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired. They include Abbem Institute of Technology, SS Peter and Paul Pastoral and Social Institute, Community College, Mumford Institute of Technology, Lakeside University College, ILMA Institute of Science and Technology, River View College, Synergies Institute and the Institute of Local Government Studies.
Others are Ohawu College of Agriculture, College of Tropical Agriculture, Animal Health and Production College, Kwadaso Agricultural College, Hopkins Health Training Institute, Manaata School of Midwifery, Western Hills School of Nursing, Oak City International College and Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Asankrangwa.
The list further includes Holy Spirit College of Education, Islamic Nursing Training School, Springs College, Wintech Professional Institute, Trans Africa College, Institute of Business Management and Journalism, Rural Development College, University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies, School of Anaesthesia and Unique Citizens College.
Kings and Queens Medical College, Royal Nursing College, Zenith University College, Institute of Development and Technology Management, Jayee University College, Modal College, Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Cape Coast and Archbishop Porter Girls’ Polytechnic in Elmina complete the list.
“GTEC strongly advises prospective students, parents, guardians, and the general public to verify the accreditation status of all institutions, Learning Centres, and academic programmes directly with the Commission before applying for admission,” the notice stated.
According to GTEC, the notice was issued to safeguard the public, prevent misinformation and protect prospective students from potential exploitation.
