The Ministry of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with selected universities to begin the rollout of the Postgraduate Diploma in Ghana Teacher Professionalisation (PGG) programme, an initiative aimed at upgrading non-trained teachers into fully licensed professionals.
The programme is designed for teachers already working in classrooms without formal professional training and will equip them with the pedagogical knowledge, skills and competencies needed to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
The initiative was earlier proposed by the Minister for Education as part of efforts to strengthen teacher quality and professional standards in Ghana’s education system.
By partnering universities to deliver the programme, the Ministry is seeking to create a structured pathway for untrained teachers to gain professional certification while remaining in service.
The move is expected to improve the quality of instruction in schools and help ensure that more teachers meet the standards required for licensing and effective classroom practice.
It also reflects the Ministry’s broader push to professionalise teaching and raise learning outcomes through better teacher preparation and continuous development.
