The Hohoe Municipal Assembly will begin its annual medical screening and health education exercise for food and drink vendors across the municipality on Monday, August 17, 2026.
The exercise, which will run until Friday, September 25, 2026, is expected to cover all communities within the Hohoe Municipality in the Volta Region.
In a statement signed by the Hohoe Municipal Coordinating Director, Wisdom Kporngor, the Assembly said all persons involved in the processing, preparation, handling, sale and distribution of food and drinks are required by law to undergo the screening.
The exercise is being undertaken in accordance with Section 97(1) of the Food and Drugs Authority Regulations and Section 25(11) of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly Byelaws, 2018.
According to the Assembly, the screening is intended to protect public health and help prevent the spread of food- and water-borne diseases and infections.
Each food and drink vendor will be required to pay GH¢50 to participate in the exercise.
The screening will be conducted by the Environmental Health Unit of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and public health promotion partners.
The Assembly has cautioned that vendors who fail to undergo the mandatory screening will face sanctions in accordance with the applicable regulations and municipal byelaws.
