The Toase District Court has struck out the case involving a teacher and a student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School who were seen in a viral video physically fighting on campus.
The incident drew widespread public anger after the footage circulated on social media, showing the teacher, Eric Buernortey Apaflo, allegedly striking the female student several times before lifting and throwing her to the ground.
The video led to the arrest of the teacher and triggered investigations by the Ghana Education Service and the police.
When the case came before the court, it advised the teacher, the student and their families to settle the matter amicably through reconciliation and an out-of-court resolution.
Following the court proceedings, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Prof. Elvis Binney, appealed to civil society organisations and members of the teaching community to avoid prejudicial comments and threats against the teacher.
The case had sparked national discussion on discipline, teacher conduct and student safety in schools after the disturbing video surfaced online.
