The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has published a list of 70 unrecognised institutions and cautioned the public to be careful in dealing with certificates issued by them.
In a public notice dated Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Commission said the institutions listed are “currently not recognized by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns.”
GTEC further advised that “the general public is advised to exercise due diligence with regard to any certificates issued by these institutions.”
The notice is expected to concern students, parents, employers and the wider public, especially at a time when questions over fake, dubious and unaccredited qualifications continue to attract national attention.

GTEC’s latest notice signals a renewed effort to protect the credibility of tertiary education in Ghana and prevent the use of qualifications from institutions that do not meet accepted standards.
The publication also serves as a warning to prospective students to verify the status of institutions before seeking admission, and to employers to carefully check certificates presented by job applicants and professionals.
