The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the 2026/2027 academic calendar for second cycle institutions, setting September 18, 2026 as the reopening date for Form One and Form Two students in Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools.
In a statement dated June 1, 2026, GES said the calendar covers both single-track schools and transitional schools, and urged parents, teachers, students and school heads to take note of the dates and prepare accordingly.
For single-track schools, Form One and Form Two students will be in school for the first semester from September 18, 2026 to January 29, 2027, and return for the second semester from March 30, 2027 to July 30, 2027.
Form Three students in single-track schools will also resume on September 18, 2026 for the first semester and remain in school until December 18, 2026. They will then begin the second semester on February 1, 2027 and complete the academic year on June 18, 2027.
For transitional schools, Form One students will begin school on September 18, 2026 and follow a mix of in-school and online learning before ending the academic year on August 27, 2027. Form Two students in transitional schools will start on November 16, 2026, while Form Three students will follow the same September 18, 2026 reopening date for their first semester.
GES also announced key break periods and examination dates for the academic year. According to the calendar, the Christmas break will run from December 19, 2026 to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break is scheduled for March 25 to March 30, 2027.
The Service further indicated that the 2027 WASSCE for final-year students will be held from April 6 to June 18, 2027. In addition, Form Two students will observe a mid-semester break from June 17 to June 20, 2027.
GES said the calendar has been finalised and called on all stakeholders to plan effectively for a smooth academic year.
