The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has confirmed the death of one of its students following an incident at an off-campus hostel in Ayeduase over the weekend.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 9, 2026, university management said the deceased, Mr. Ransford Amankwah Asomani, was a second-year student pursuing a BSc in Agribusiness Management.
According to preliminary reports cited in the statement, Mr. Asomani fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026. He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues, with assistance from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The university said the parents of the deceased have been formally informed, and his body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Management expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the wider university community.
“The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has received with deep sadness the news of the death of one of its students,” the statement said.
It further disclosed that the KNUST Police, working in collaboration with university security services, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Management assured the public that further updates would be provided once investigations are concluded and all relevant facts are established.
The statement reaffirmed the university’s commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of students and staff.
