The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Mr Zakaria Abdulai, following allegations of sexual misconduct involving students of the school.
The interdiction takes immediate effect and will remain in place pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation into the allegations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, GES said the alleged incident had reportedly sparked a student rampage, resulting in the destruction of school property and the subsequent temporary closure of the institution.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Mr Zakaria Abdulai, Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region, pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving students at the school,” the statement said.
GES further directed the Headmaster to cooperate fully with the investigation and make himself available whenever required.
“Mr Abdulai has consequently been directed to proceed on interdiction with immediate effect and to make himself available to assist with the investigation,” the statement added.
As part of the directive, Mr Abdulai has also been instructed to hand over the management of the school to the Regional Director of Education.
The Service disclosed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the Ghana Police Service over the matter.
“A complaint has been logged with the Police as well,” GES stated.
Management assured students, parents and staff of its commitment to protecting the school community and maintaining professional standards within educational institutions.
It said safeguarding the safety of students and staff remained a priority as investigations continued.
The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service.
The allegations against the Headmaster have not been established, and the outcome of the investigation is yet to be determined.
