President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government will recruit 40,000 security personnel between 2025 and 2028 as part of efforts to create jobs for young people and strengthen national security.
Speaking at the 2026 May Day celebration in Koforidua, the President said the recruitment would be carried out at a rate of 10,000 officers each year over the four-year period.
“We’ve also given clearance to employ 40,000 security personnel at a rate of 10,000 every year from 2025 to 2028,” President Mahama said.
He explained that the measure forms part of government’s broader plan to reduce unemployment, especially among young people who have completed school but are still without work.
“This will help ease the backlog of our young children who are sitting at home with no work to do,” he said.
The announcement came as the President outlined steps being taken by his administration to move beyond macroeconomic recovery and focus on jobs, growth and improved livelihoods.
Under the Resetting Ghana Agenda, he said, government is seeking to turn economic stability into real opportunities for the youth and the wider workforce.
The planned recruitment is expected to be welcomed by many young Ghanaians seeking opportunities in the security services, especially at a time when competition for public sector jobs remains high.
