The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of 41,767 candidates who sat for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates – Second Series.
In a press statement dated February 26, 2026, WAEC disclosed that the entry figure comprised 20,036 males and 24,501 females, with 16 visually impaired and seven hearing-impaired candidates participating in the examination. However, 2,422 registered candidates were absent.
The Council withheld the entire results of 348 candidates and subject results of 469 others over alleged examination malpractices. According to WAEC, the alleged offences include collusion, impersonation, bringing foreign materials into examination halls and seeking external assistance. The Council indicated that the affected results “will be released or cancelled based on the outcome of investigations.”
Performance data released by WAEC show that 67.43 percent of candidates obtained grades A1 to C6 in English Language, while 49.84 percent achieved the same grade range in Core Mathematics. Social Studies recorded the highest performance, with 81.21 percent securing A1 to C6 grades. However, performance in Integrated Science remained comparatively low, with only 35 percent obtaining passes in the A1 to C6 category.
WAEC further cautioned the public against fraudsters who contact candidates with promises to upgrade results for a fee. The Council stressed that its results database is secure and advised institutions to verify results directly through its official website.
Candidates can access their results at www.waecgh.org, while those whose results have been withheld have been directed to visit the Council’s irregularities portal for further information.
The Council expressed appreciation to supervisors, invigilators, examiners and stakeholders for their support in the conduct of the examination and the release of results.
