The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned that students found culpable in the recent violence during inter-school sports competitions in the Central Region will face strict disciplinary and legal sanctions.
At a crisis meeting held on Monday, February 23, 2026, the Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, stated firmly that acts of assault and aggression within the school system would not be tolerated.
He emphasised that any student found to have engaged in violent conduct would be sanctioned in accordance with the laws of Ghana and the regulations of the Ghana Education Service.
The emergency meeting brought together regional and district education directors, heads of affected schools—including Aggrey Memorial SHS, Adisadel College, Swedru School of Business, Obrachire SHTS and Kwanyako SHTS—as well as sports coordinators, parents and some of the affected students.
GES confirmed that the alleged perpetrators have already been arrested and are assisting the police with investigations.
Professor Davis condemned the level of aggression displayed during the competitions, describing it as contrary to the values of discipline, sportsmanship and mutual respect that school games are meant to promote.
He further endorsed the Central Regional Director’s decision to suspend all sporting activities in the region pending the outcome of investigations.
GES reiterated its commitment to ensuring that inter-school sports remain platforms for talent discovery and unity, not violence, warning that disciplinary enforcement will be strengthened going forward.
