The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Professor Lydia Aziato, and the Registrar, Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, have begun their second term in office following the renewal of their appointments.
The University marked the commencement of their second tenure, alongside the renewed appointments of other key management officers, at a ceremony held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the University’s Council Chamber at Sokode-Lokoe, Ho.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Aziato expressed appreciation to the University Council and Management for renewing her appointment and thanked staff, students, senior management and her predecessors for their contributions to the development of UHAS.
She also outlined a number of priorities for her second term, including the development of the University’s Fodome and Accra campuses, introduction of new academic programmes and expansion of local and international partnerships.
Other priorities include reviewing the University’s Strategic Plan and Fundamental Laws, improving teaching and learning resources, strengthening research and grant acquisition, and implementing recommendations from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
Professor Aziato also intends to advance the UHAS Medical Centre and fully operationalise the University’s Simulation Centre.
Her second-term agenda will further focus on digital transformation and artificial intelligence, health professions education, research and innovation, infrastructure development, resource mobilisation, student wellbeing and inclusion, governance and institutional effectiveness, and strengthening the University’s global visibility.
She urged staff and students to continue protecting the reputation of UHAS through professionalism, integrity and teamwork.
The Registrar, Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, also thanked the University Council and Management for renewing her appointment and pledged to strengthen governance and administration while supporting the welfare of staff and students.
Speaking on behalf of Management, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Frank Edwin described the renewed appointments as another call to service and pledged the support of staff towards achieving the University’s objectives.
The University also renewed the appointments of Professor Peter Adatara, Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery; Professor Frank Baiden, Dean of the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health; and Professor Judith A. Torgbor, Dean of Students.
Others are Professor Kwame Benoit Nguessan Banga, Director of the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine; Patrick De-Souza, Director of ICT; and Arc. Ruth Xorladem Ayittey, Director of Works and Physical Development.
UHAS also announced new appointments, including Professor Seth Angmorterh as Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Professor Cornelius Dodoo as Dean of the School of Pharmacy, and Georgia Marfo Coffie as Director of Human Resource.
Representatives of UTAG, GAUA, the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana, GRASAG, the SRC and the UHAS Alumni Association congratulated the officers and pledged their support to the University’s leadership.
