The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba, to provide structured skills training and internship opportunities for students in health-related programmes.
The agreement will enable students pursuing medicine, pharmacy, nursing, optometry, physician assistantship, biomedical sciences, nutrition and dietetics, medical laboratory technology, allied health sciences and related disciplines to undertake practical training at the Hospital.
The Industrial Liaison Office of UCC, which facilitates industry partnerships and student placements, led negotiations for the MoU.
The partnership aligns with UCC’s strategic objective of strengthening industry-academia collaboration to enhance health education and ensure that students graduate with hands-on clinical experience.
At a signing ceremony held at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, representatives of both institutions pledged to sustain the partnership and ensure it delivers meaningful outcomes.
The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Kwame Ofori Boadu, described the initiative as a bold and long-overdue intervention that could transform Ghana’s health sector.
He stated that leveraging the Hospital’s expertise and infrastructure would help bridge the long-standing gap between academic instruction and clinical practice.
Representing UCC, the Head of the Industrial Liaison Office, Mr. Fiifi Andoh-Kumi, emphasised that the University views the MoU as a strategic investment in human capital development.
He stressed that UCC would maximise the partnership to train competent healthcare professionals equipped to meet the country’s evolving health needs.
The agreement is expected to strengthen practical training pathways for students while contributing to improved healthcare delivery standards.
