The University of Ghana (UG) has postponed its reopening for the 2026/2027 academic year, initially scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026.
The University has not announced a new reopening date but says a revised schedule will be communicated to students in due course.
In a notice dated October 10, 2026, and signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, the University informed students of the change in its academic calendar.
“The Management of the University of Ghana wishes to inform all students that the reopening of the University for the 2026/2027 academic year, initially scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, has been postponed,” the notice stated.
Management did not provide a reason for the postponement but assured students that arrangements were being made towards reopening.
“Management sincerely regrets any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciates the patience and understanding of students as arrangements are made for the reopening,” the statement added.
Despite the postponement, the University has directed students to complete their academic registration online in accordance with earlier instructions.
According to the notice, completing the registration process will enable students to secure their places for classes and qualify to participate in the upcoming random bed allocation exercise.
Students who fail to complete their academic registration may therefore be ineligible for the accommodation allocation exercise.
The University indicated that the random bed allocation would take place soon, although no specific date was provided.
Meanwhile, students are expected to await further communication from the University regarding the revised reopening date for the 2026/2027 academic year.
