The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an urgent meeting on Monday, October 12, 2026, in an effort to resolve the ongoing strike by university administrators.
The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the government and the parties involved to discuss the concerns behind the industrial action and explore ways to restore normal operations at affected tertiary institutions.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry explained that the engagement was intended to promote “constructive dialogue towards an amicable resolution of the ongoing strike action”.
The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation processes and continued engagement with relevant stakeholders.
It expressed optimism that the meeting would produce a positive outcome and pave the way for the early restoration of academic and administrative activities at affected institutions.
The government also appealed to the parties to approach the discussions with a willingness to reach an agreement, taking into account the consequences of the strike for students and university communities.
“Government also calls on all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, mindful of the impact of the ongoing industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest,” the statement said.
The Ministry indicated that resolving the dispute remained important to ensuring the smooth running of tertiary institutions and preventing further disruptions to their activities.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to determine the next steps towards resolving the industrial action.
