Third-year Political Science student Jude Michelle has been elected the 66th President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), becoming only the second female to occupy the position in the University’s history.
Jude emerged victorious in a highly competitive election that featured 16 candidates, making her the only female contestant in the presidential race.
She secured a decisive victory, polling more than 6,000 votes ahead of her closest challenger, Obeng Kelvin Fosu, in one of the most keenly contested SRC elections at KNUST.
She will serve alongside her running mate, Nana Kwame Oppong Antwi of the College of Engineering, who was elected Vice President.
Their election marks another milestone for female leadership at KNUST and reflects growing student confidence in women occupying key leadership positions within the University.
As the new SRC President, Jude Michelle is expected to lead student advocacy, promote student welfare and work with university authorities to address issues affecting the student body.
She is also expected to oversee the implementation of her administration’s manifesto while representing the interests of thousands of KNUST students during her tenure.
The newly elected SRC executives are expected to be sworn into office in the coming days to officially begin their mandate.
