President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate release of GH¢300 million to support flood relief and mitigation efforts following heavy rains that caused flooding in parts of Accra and other southern communities.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on June 30, 2026, the President instructed the Minister for Finance to release the funds from the Contingency Fund to address urgent needs arising from the situation.
Out of the total amount, GH¢150 million will be used to provide immediate relief to affected persons and communities, while the remaining GH¢150 million will be invested in measures to reduce future flooding.
The directive forms part of government’s response to the widespread flooding triggered by hours of unusually heavy rainfall in several parts of the country.
The President has also ordered the deployment of personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to support ongoing rescue and relief operations in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other security agencies.
Earlier in the day, President Mahama undertook an aerial assessment of the affected areas to evaluate the extent of the damage and coordinate response efforts.
The Presidency said the intervention is aimed at safeguarding lives and property while strengthening long-term flood prevention measures across vulnerable communities.
