The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned the violent assault on some teachers and the destruction of school property at Bawku Senior High School in the Upper East Region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 17, GES described the attack as unacceptable and announced that a full-scale investigation had been launched in collaboration with security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.
According to the Service, preliminary reports link the incident to the strict enforcement of examination regulations and invigilation during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“The actions of the alleged students are unacceptable, unjustifiable and contrary to the core values of discipline, respect and integrity that underpin education,” the statement said.
GES stressed that attacks on teachers in the line of duty constitute a serious breach of school discipline and a direct threat to the safety of education personnel.
To restore calm, the Service disclosed that security personnel have been deployed to the school to ensure the safety of staff and students while allowing academic activities and the ongoing WASSCE examinations to continue without disruption.
The Service also confirmed that the affected teachers are receiving the necessary medical attention and support.
GES assured the public that investigations are underway and warned that all persons found culpable would face both disciplinary action and prosecution.
“Full investigation is underway in collaboration with security agencies to identify all individuals involved. Those found culpable will face the full rigours of the law following GES disciplinary procedures,” the statement added.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting teachers and maintaining discipline, safety and order in schools across the country.
