The Ministry of Education has disclosed that 43 teachers have been arrested in connection with examination malpractice during the recently concluded Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The revelation was made in a statement issued ahead of the commencement of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to the Ministry, the arrested teachers will face the “full rigours of the law” as government intensifies efforts to protect the credibility of public examinations.
The statement, signed by Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, warned candidates, invigilators, supervisors, teachers, and external collaborators against engaging in any form of examination fraud.
“Examination fraud remains a major threat to the integrity of Ghana’s educational system and must not be tolerated,” the statement said.
The Ministry stressed that any individual found aiding, facilitating, or participating in examination malpractice would be sanctioned in accordance with the law.
It also revealed that government is considering proposals for the publication of names of adults caught engaging in examination malpractice during the BECE.
Meanwhile, the Ministry extended best wishes to candidates sitting for the 2026 WASSCE and urged them to remain calm, disciplined, and confident throughout the examination period.
A total of 509,862 candidates from 1,020 schools are expected to sit for this year’s WASSCE at 1,017 examination centres nationwide.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment, together with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and transparent examination process across the country.
