Black Sherif has been crowned Artiste of the Year at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), ending the night as the biggest winner with five awards.
The 24-year-old musician, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, took the top honour at Ghana’s premier music awards event held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The win marks Black Sherif’s second Artiste of the Year title, after first winning the award in 2023. With the latest victory, he joins a select group of multiple-time winners, including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and VIP.
Black Sherif’s strong showing on the night was driven largely by the success of his sophomore album, Iron Boy.
In addition to Artiste of the Year, he also won Album/EP of the Year for Iron Boy, Songwriter of the Year for Sacrifice, Best Hip Hop Song for Where Dem Boyz, and Best Afropop Song for Sacrifice.
He also received a GH¢100,000 investment package from Guinness Ghana to support his next music project.
Released in April 2025, Iron Boy strengthened Black Sherif’s position as one of Africa’s leading young music talents. The project blends drill, highlife and Afrobeats with personal storytelling, and produced popular songs such as Sacrifice and Where Dem Boyz.
Black Sherif first shot to fame in 2021 with First Sermon, Second Sermon and the global hit Kwaku the Traveller, and has since grown into one of the most influential voices in Ghanaian music.
For the night’s top award, he beat strong competition from other nominees, including Medikal, Wendy Shay and Diana Hamilton.
In his acceptance speech, Black Sherif thanked fans and supporters for standing by him.
“This is for everyone who believed in me and believed in the journey,” he said.
Winning Artiste of the Year for a second time at just 24 years old further cements Black Sherif’s place among the biggest names in Ghanaian music.
