The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), through its Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts, has held its first Economic and Social Policy Dialogue, bringing together academics, policymakers, students and development practitioners to discuss major national issues.
The event was held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, under the theme: “Building Inclusive and Resilient Economies: Policy Pathways for Job Creation, Digital Innovation, Social Protection, and Climate-Smart Development.”
The dialogue focused on some of the most pressing concerns facing the country, including job creation, youth empowerment, climate-smart development, resilient economic growth, and the link between climate and Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM).
The programme was chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Issaka Kanton Osumanu, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile.
A keynote address was delivered by Prof. Joshua Y. Abor, while other presentations and discussions explored practical policy pathways for addressing social and economic challenges.
The event attracted a mix of participants from academia, government, development institutions, industry and the student community.
Participants described the dialogue as timely, insightful and impactful, and called for it to be sustained as an important platform for policy discussion and national development.
The maiden event is expected to strengthen UBIDS’ role in shaping public policy conversations, particularly on issues affecting jobs, social protection, innovation and climate resilience.
