A high-powered government delegation led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, joined the President of the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), David Sitsope Tamakloe, to bury his father at Kpordoave, Klikor, near Agbozume in the Volta Region.
The burial service brought together government officials, media practitioners, traditional leaders, family members, and sympathisers to honour the late Papa Paul Kofi Governor Tamakloe.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the government, Mr Debrah expressed condolences to the bereaved family and described the loss as one that goes beyond the Tamakloe household.
“On behalf of the President and government, we extend our deepest sympathies to David Sitsope Tamakloe and his family. Losing a father is never easy, but we take solace in the impactful life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind,” Mr Debrah said.
He praised the PRINPAG President for his role in Ghana’s media space and said his commitment to press freedom and professional journalism reflected the values taught him by his late father.
Media colleagues and members of PRINPAG also paid tribute to the deceased and pledged their support to Mr Tamakloe and his family during the mourning period.
In his remarks, Mr Tamakloe thanked the government delegation, the media fraternity and all sympathisers for their support.
“This show of love and solidarity gives us strength. My father lived a humble and principled life, and we are committed to upholding the values he taught us,” he said.
The funeral was conducted in line with both Christian and traditional customs and ended with an emotional final farewell from family, friends and mourners.
The presence of senior government officials at the ceremony highlighted the close relationship between the state and the media, especially PRINPAG, which continues to play an important role in shaping public debate and supporting democratic governance in Ghana.
