The Vice-President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has launched the 150th anniversary celebrations of Mfantsipim School, describing the institution as a cornerstone of Ghana’s intellectual and leadership development.
The launch, held in Accra on April 11, brought together alumni, students, and education stakeholders to reflect on the school’s long-standing contribution to national growth.
Mfantsipim’s Legacy in Leadership and Education
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said Mfantsipim has played a key role in shaping generations of disciplined and principled leaders.
“Mfantsipim is more than its brick and mortar,” she stated.
She attributed the school’s enduring legacy to the vision of the Methodist Church Ghana, highlighting the importance of education in national transformation.
Call for Expanded Access to Quality Education
The Vice-President used the occasion to call for expanded access to education across the country, while emphasising the need to maintain quality and promote innovation.
She noted that education remains a critical driver of Ghana’s development and must continue to evolve to meet modern demands.

Healthy Rivalry with Adisadel College Highlighted
Touching on the historic rivalry between Mfantsipim School and Adisadel College, she described it as a healthy competition rooted in respect and intellectual engagement.
“The respectful rivalry we see here exemplifies the values of intellectual discourse and mutual respect that should underpin our national dialogue,” she said.
Students Urged to Uphold Values of Integrity and Discipline
Addressing current students, the Vice-President urged them to uphold values of integrity, discipline and service.
She also commended alumni for their continued support in sustaining the school’s standards.
“The school’s impact is not just in its past, but in the confidence we have in its continued brilliance for the years ahead,” she added.
