Ghanaian music stars Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have put rivalry aside to make a strong patriotic statement, donating over $200,000 to support the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The donations were made at the World Cup fundraising campaign held on Friday, March 20, 2026, aimed at mobilising resources to support Ghana’s participation in the tournament.
Shatta Wale donated $100,000, calling on other Ghanaians to contribute to the national cause.
“This is what I can also do to support the Black Stars… If you want to also donate, please start donating because we need more money for the Black Stars,” he said.
Not to be outdone, Stonebwoy went a step further, donating a total of $101,000—comprising $81,000 in cash and $20,000 worth of music rights.
“We’re donating $81,000 to make it $101,000… I think we are all here as Ghanaians, so let’s be at par,” he stated.
He described the gesture as a call for unity, urging Ghanaians to rise above divisions and support the national team.
“This is a very important call to all of us… we just have to keep that competitive energy to bring joy to the nation,” he added.
The moment marked a symbolic shift from rivalry to national unity, as the two artistes demonstrated that patriotism transcends competition.
The funds are expected to support efforts to mobilise Ghanaian fans for the tournament, although President John Dramani Mahama has already indicated that government will not use public funds to sponsor supporters’ travel, encouraging private support and fundraising instead.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and the fundraising initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure strong Ghanaian representation at the tournament.
The donations by the two artistes have been widely praised as a show of commitment, unity and support for the Black Stars, with many calling on corporate bodies and individuals to follow suit.
