Police have arrested six juvenile students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault of a final-year Adisadel College student during the inter-colleges sports festival in Cape Coast.
According to a press release issued by the Central Regional Police Command on February 24, 2026, the suspects were handed over to the Kotokuraba Police Station by school authorities on the evening of February 20.
Police said the suspects allegedly attacked Rexford Owusu-Ansah, a final-year student of Adisadel College, at Pedu Junction around 3:30pm on the same day.
“On receipt of the complaint, the juvenile suspects were arrested and detained to assist with investigation,” the statement noted.
Assault After Stadium Event
Initial police investigations revealed that the attack occurred on the final day of the inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The victim was reportedly leaving the stadium with two friends when a group of Aggrey Memorial students confronted them.
“The Aggrey Memorial students asked them if they attend Adisadel College and attacked them right after,” police stated.
While the victim’s two friends managed to escape, he was allegedly overpowered.
“He was caught, and was kicked onto the floor and beaten mercilessly, and they took his iphone 17 pro max and his pocket money of about GH¢1,400 Cedis and his shoes,” the release said.
Serious Eye Injury
The student was rushed to the stadium clinic before being referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital. He was discharged on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
However, medical assessment revealed severe injury to his eye.
“The police medical form that was endorsed by a medical doctor showed a fractured nerve bone in his right eye and he cannot open it up, and the eyeball seems to be falling out,” the statement disclosed.
Police added that the victim’s two friends who escaped the attack have confirmed they can identify the suspects.
Police Condemn Violence
The Central Regional Police Command condemned the incident and assured the public that justice would be pursued.
“The Central Regional Police Command strongly condemns the violence and assures the public that due process will be followed as the juvenile offenders will face the full rigours of the law,” the statement concluded.
Investigations are ongoing.
