The Member of Parliament for Mampong, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, has called on members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON) to take a more active role in promoting the ideals and achievements of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking at a meeting with TESCON-MONICO members, the MP stressed the importance of youth involvement in political engagement and grassroots mobilisation.
Call for Stronger Youth Participation
Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong commended TESCON members for their contributions during the 2024 general elections but noted that some members did not meet expectations.
He encouraged students to play a more active role in shaping political discourse and supporting party activities at the grassroots level.
Concerns Over Student Welfare
The MP also raised concerns about challenges facing students, including rising school fees and poor living conditions, which he attributed to governance issues.
“Students cannot study effectively on an empty stomach,” he stated.
Concerns About Fairness in Postings
Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong expressed concern about the current system of automatic postings, alleging that it is increasingly influenced by personal connections rather than merit.
He called for reforms to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all graduates.
Push to Strengthen TESCON Structures
The Mampong legislator reaffirmed his commitment to reviving and strengthening TESCON groups across his constituency.
He urged members to deepen their understanding of the party’s values and vision.
“Very soon, we will begin a strong and intentional conversation: What is NPP? Why NPP? It is important that every supporter becomes an ambassador,” he said.
Encouraging Grassroots Engagement
Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong advised TESCON members to actively promote the party’s achievements within their communities.
“Go back to your homes, your towns, your neighbourhoods. Speak to your people. Engage them. Educate them,” he urged.
Focus on Technology and Future Elections
He also highlighted the growing importance of technology, particularly artificial intelligence, encouraging students to use digital tools to support party communication efforts.
The MP expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to deliver development and announced plans for a nationwide campaign to highlight the party’s achievements.
“If we come together as one united, focused and committed… we still have a strong and hopeful path to victory in 2028,” he said.
Strengthening Political Awareness Among Students
The engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen youth participation and political awareness within tertiary institutions.
