The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Ghana’s Embassy in Washington, D.C. will officially reopen on Thursday, May 29, 2025, following weeks of administrative suspension and internal restructuring.
The reopening comes after the recall of all Home-Based Staff and the temporary suspension of Local Staff at the mission. A new team of experienced diplomats, led by a senior official from the Ministry, has been deployed to oversee operations and implement comprehensive reforms.
According to the Ministry, the move is part of efforts to restore operational integrity, complete a total systems overhaul, and advance ongoing structural reforms at the mission.
As part of the restructuring process, the Embassy’s website and payment platforms have been reconfigured by an Information Technology (IT) team to remove all unofficial or unauthorized digital links previously associated with the system.
In a public statement, the Ministry assured Ghanaians that measures have been put in place to address and clear service backlogs.
“Any inconvenience resulting from our necessary interventions is deeply regretted,” the statement said.
The Ministry also confirmed that the “unfortunate circumstances” which necessitated the temporary closure have been formally reported to the Auditor-General and Attorney-General for further investigation and the possible imposition of sanctions where appropriate.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and enhanced service delivery, the Ministry encouraged members of the public to direct inquiries to the following official contact points:
📧 washington@mfa.gov.gh | ☎️ +1 202 686 4520
📧 ipab@mfa.gov.gh | ☎️ +233 240 793 072
The Ministry emphasised that this renewed operational direction is part of a broader strategy to safeguard Ghana’s diplomatic reputation and strengthen its global diplomatic engagements.
