Dr. Sylvester Nyamekye, a seasoned legal professional and distinguished member of both local and international Bar associations, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Secretary of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA). A proud alumnus of Mfantsipim School and Managing Partner at Nyamekye & Partners, Dr. Nyamekye brings a diverse array of experience and leadership to the race, coupled with a deep commitment to community development, justice, welfare and legal advocacy.
In addition to his extensive legal career, Dr. Nyamekye is the founder of the Young Leaders Forum, a non-governmental organization dedicated to addressing critical social issues such as substance abuse, streetism, teenage pregnancy, education, and women’s rights. The organization also plays a vital role in providing mentorship to young men and women across Ghana, helping to nurture the next generation of leaders.
Dr. Nyamekye’s professional credentials are bolstered by his affiliations with numerous prestigious legal bodies, including the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), the American Bar Association (ABA), and the International Bar Association (IBA). Within the ABA, he is an active member of several key divisions, including Civil Rights and Social Justice, Science and Technology, Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law, Law Practice Division, and the Senior Lawyers Division. His broad involvement demonstrates his dedication to shaping legal discourse both locally and internationally.
In his capacity as Board Secretary to several local and international companies, Dr. Nyamekye has gained valuable insights into governance and corporate law, skills he intends to bring to the GBA. His vision for the Greater Accra Bar Association includes promoting transparency, ethical leadership, and creating more opportunities for younger lawyers to thrive in an evolving legal landscape.
