Aduman Senior High School has emerged as the champions of the inaugural Rugby League 9s tournament for Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region.
The tournament, held on May 3, 2024, ignited the enthusiasm for youth rugby league, nurturing talents and fostering social engagement.
Featuring four schools in the Junior High School category – Akrowa JHS, Akrofrom JHS, Mowire JHS, and Apagya JHS – and two schools in the Senior High category – Aduman SHS and Pentecost SHS – the event showcased the region’s burgeoning interest in the sport.
At the end of intense competition, the Akrofrom Girls’ team and the Apagya Boys’ team clinched victory in the junior high category, while Aduman SHS triumphed in both male and female divisions of the senior high category.
Julius Amevor, Ashanti Regional Manager, highlighted, “Our rugby league agenda extends beyond competition; it encompasses inclusivity, accessibility, and community involvement.”
Jafaru A. Mustapha, General Manager of Rugby League Federation Ghana, underscored, “Rugby league promotes social cohesion and athletic excellence, serving as more than just a sport but a catalyst for unity and excellence.”
Standout performances were delivered by Osei Bemah Angel from Akrowa JHS and Enock Morrison from Apagya JHS in the junior high category, and Afriyie Elizabeth from Pentecost SHS and Agyei Junior from Aduman SHS in the senior high category.
“With each match, our youth hone not only their sporting prowess but also forge a path toward personal and social excellence,” remarked Assistant Ashanti Regional Manager, Mr. George Asamoah.
Madam Juliana Storey, President of Rugby League Federation Ghana, declared, “In the heart of the Ashanti Region, the future of rugby league shines bright, propelled by the zeal of our youth and the steadfast support of our community.”
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Mr. David Akomeah Asokwah, Afigya Kwabre South District Education Director, representatives from the Ghana Education Service, local chiefs, and esteemed delegates from district education offices and schools, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
