The UniMAC SRC Agyenkwa Endowment Fund has disbursed a total of GH¢30,331 to support 25 financially challenged students of the university, in one of the biggest student welfare interventions by the current SRC administration.
The disbursement, carried out under the Kouyo-Micaiah-led administration, took place at the South Legon Campus during a ceremony organised by the Fund Committee.
The beneficiaries received different amounts based on the level of fees and academic-related debts owed by each student.
Speaking at the event, SRC President Moses Desire Kouyo said the initiative was born out of a personal commitment to helping students stay in school despite financial hardship.
“It comes from a deep part of my heart to support student education,” he said.
Mr Kouyo urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies and work towards becoming useful members of society after graduation.
He said communication students have an important role to play in national development, and encouraged journalism students to continue telling powerful stories that shape society positively.
He also urged Development Communication students to support filmmakers and creatives in producing stories that can inspire change and influence future generations.
According to him, the fund is not just about paying fees, but about investing in future leaders, communicators and creatives.
Chairperson of the Fund Committee, Pamela Selasi Fiador, congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them not to lose focus because of financial challenges.
She urged them to remain disciplined and committed to the reason they enrolled at the university.
Some of the beneficiaries described the support as timely, impactful and life-changing.
The UniMAC SRC Public Relations Officer, Hafiz Larry Alhassan, told the media that the committee received 66 applications from students across the university.
He said a detailed vetting and investigation process was conducted to ensure that the support went to students who were genuinely in need.
“After receiving the applications, the committee carefully shortlisted applicants through a detailed vetting and investigation process to ensure that genuinely struggling students received the support,” he said.
He explained that the investigations were necessary to verify the financial condition of applicants and promote fairness in the selection process.
The UniMAC SRC Agyenkwa Endowment Fund is one of the flagship welfare initiatives of the current SRC administration, aimed at providing financial relief and educational support to needy but deserving students.
