The University of Ghana’s February 2025 Congregation witnessed a historic moment as Ephraim Ayeh Oracca-Tetteh, the valedictorian, graduated with a perfect 4.0 Final Grade Point Average (FGPA). This extraordinary achievement cements his place as the Overall Best Student, setting a new benchmark for academic excellence at the university.
Ephraim’s journey to this remarkable feat is one of resilience and determination. Initially admitted to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to study Painting and Sculpture, his academic path took an unexpected turn when a health condition led to deteriorating eyesight. Undeterred, Ephraim embraced the challenge, mastering Assistive Technology with the support of the Ghana Blind Union. This enabled him to transition to the University of Ghana, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, Philosophy & Classics, and Archaeology.
His academic brilliance shone brightly throughout his time at the university. Ephraim’s dedication earned him the Alumni Prize for Best Level 200 Humanities Student at the 2021/2022 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards. Now, he graduates with a flawless 4.0 GPA, a rare accomplishment that has left an indelible mark on the institution’s history.
Beyond academics, Ephraim’s impact on campus life has been profound. As Organising Secretary and Public Relations Officer for the Campus Association of Students with Special Needs, he championed inclusion and accessibility. He also volunteered with Radio Univers and facilitated a groundbreaking project by the Ghana Education Service, T-TEL, and KTI, training senior high school teachers to integrate technology into their classrooms.
Ephraim’s story is a powerful reminder that no challenge is too great to overcome. As he steps into the next chapter of his life, he aspires to become an academic in Philosophy and Law, focusing on human rights and inclusion. He attributes his success to the unwavering support of his family, mentors, and institutions like the Scholarship Secretariat.
