The School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) of the University of Cape Coast has honoured 37 outstanding students for their exceptional academic performance at the 2026 Dean’s Awards Ceremony.
The awardees, drawn from Levels 200 to 400, received certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their academic excellence. The beneficiaries included students from the School’s satellite campuses at Dominase and Nyakrom.
The ceremony was held under the theme, “Rewarding Excellence, Shaping the Future of Healthcare in Ghana.”
Addressing the event, the Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Desmond Omane Acheampong, said the awards were instituted to recognise academic excellence and motivate students to aim higher.
He also praised students from the satellite campuses for their strong participation and commended lecturers across the various campuses for their commitment to training future healthcare professionals.
Delivering the keynote address, the General Secretary of the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers Union (MELPWU), Dr. Cephas Kofi Akortor, described the awards as an important milestone in the academic journey of the recipients.
He said excellence does not happen by chance, but is built through discipline, integrity, perseverance and continuous improvement.
Dr. Akortor urged the students to carry their achievements with humility and remain focused on sustaining their success.
“I encourage you to remain resilient in the face of challenges knowing that setbacks should not be viewed as barriers to success,” he said.
Sharing a personal experience, he revealed that he once failed a course during his academic journey, but said the setback later became a turning point in his life.
“The future belongs to those who refuse to give up,” he stated.
He also encouraged students to embrace honesty, compassion and professionalism, stressing that healthcare workers are not only practitioners but also healers entrusted with improving lives.
According to him, lasting success in healthcare and life depends on competence, reputation, resilience, teamwork and the courage to dream beyond one’s imagination.
The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Samuel Kyei, who represented the Provost of the College. He advised the award winners not to see the recognition as the peak of their achievements, but as motivation to pursue even greater goals.
He stressed that excellence is a continuous journey that requires dedication, discipline and consistency.
The event brought together lecturers, students and administrators to celebrate academic excellence and encourage students to pursue success both in the classroom and in their future professional lives.
