Augustus Kaufmann, son of Elsie Effah Kaufmann, has placed second in the Ohio Section of the Mathematical Association of America’s annual Leo Schneider Student Team Competition.
He achieved the feat alongside two teammates while representing Case Western Reserve University.
The competition, organised by the Mathematical Association of America, brings together university students to test their problem-solving skills and teamwork in mathematics.
Augustus’ achievement has drawn attention, with many pointing to his academic background and connection to Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, who is widely known as the Quiz Mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
His performance highlights the growing presence of Ghanaian students in international academic competitions, especially in science and mathematics.
He and his teammates’ second-place finish is seen as a strong performance in a competitive contest.
