Detective Sergeant Modestus Amevor, a detective in the Ghana Police Service, has launched his latest must-read books, titled ‘Practical Guide to Criminal Investigation’ and ‘Know Your Rights as a Suspect.’
The event, held on June 29, 2024, at Nsawam, drew participation from his colleagues, friends, family, and the public.
In his speech, he reiterated that his motivation for writing the books is to help equip his fellow detectives and law enforcement officers with current criminal investigation practices and procedures, as well as to educate citizens on their rights so that they can assert these rights when they find themselves in conflict with the law.
Know your rights as a suspect, answers to frequently asked questions, and also seeks to empower citizens to be informed about their fundamental human rights and to assert them in pursuit of justice.
ACP (RTD) Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, the chairman of the event and the one who launched the two books, urged both civilians and security officers to understand their rights to prevent unfair treatment by the criminal justice system.
He added that, even though he does not wish for anyone to find him or herself on the wrong side of the law, he urged the public to acquire these important books because it will aid them in knowing what to say at what point in time, what to do, and what not to do, even when one has counsel.
