Fifty-two students who distinguished themselves in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Education in Accra, marking a moment of national recognition for academic excellence at the basic level.
The visit, held on Monday, March 2, 2026, brought together the high-performing students, officials of the Ministry of Education, and leadership of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The delegation was received by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, the Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, and the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education.
National Recognition for Excellence
The 52 students comprise the best male and female candidates from public and private schools across the 16 regions of Ghana. The group also includes the top two male and female students from schools for the visually impaired and hearing impaired, reflecting a commitment to inclusive recognition.
Addressing the students, Dr. Apaak congratulated them for their hard work and discipline, describing their achievement as a testament to resilience and determination.
“What you have achieved should not be the end but the beginning of great things. Be motivated and stay away from bad companions,” he advised.
He urged the students to remain focused as they transition to the next stage of their academic journey, stressing that excellence requires consistency and good character.
Reward Ceremony Scheduled
Director-General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, announced that the 52 outstanding students would be formally honoured at a special ceremony scheduled for March 4, 2026.
He explained that the award ceremony is designed not only to reward excellence but also to inspire other students across the country to strive for higher academic standards.
The recognition programme forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry and GES to promote quality basic education and celebrate academic achievement nationwide.
Education stakeholders say such engagements reinforce the value of merit and serve as motivation for students, teachers and parents alike.
