The Member of Parliament for Anlo Constituency, Hon. Richard Kwame Sefe, has rolled out an exercise book distribution programme to support basic school pupils in underserved communities across the constituency.
The intervention is benefiting pupils from Primary Three to Junior High School Three (JHS 3) and is aimed at improving access to essential learning materials while easing the cost of school supplies for families.
Several schools in Fuveme, Atiteti, Tunu, Bomigo, Kpordui, Sodzi, Adzato and Akplorfudzi have so far benefited from the initiative, with more schools expected to receive exercise books in the coming week.
Hon. Sefe said the intervention forms part of efforts to ensure that the financial circumstances of families do not prevent children from having the basic materials they need for their education.
“Education remains one of the most important investments we can make in the future of our communities. However, for many families in underserved areas, the cost of basic school supplies can place an additional burden on parents and guardians,” he said.
He stressed that providing pupils with essential learning materials could help remove some of the everyday barriers affecting their education.
“No child should have to struggle with basic learning materials simply because of the circumstances of their community or family. When we invest in our children, we invest in the future of Anlo,” Hon. Sefe said.
The initiative has been welcomed by pupils, teachers and school authorities in the beneficiary communities, with school officials expressing appreciation for the support.
Some school authorities also appealed for further assistance with teaching and learning materials and other interventions to improve the learning environment.
Hon. Sefe acknowledged the role of teachers, parents, community leaders and other stakeholders in supporting the education and development of children across the constituency.
The distribution exercise is expected to continue in other underserved communities as efforts are made to extend the support to more pupils.
