Legal practitioner and business executive Dr Sylvester Nyamekye has been honoured with the 2025 Best Paper Award by Management Research Quarterly (MRQ) for research on business continuity in professional-service firms.
Dr Nyamekye received the award jointly with Dr Abdul Hamid Kwarteng for their research paper titled, “Dynamic Capabilities and Factors Contributing to Business Continuity in Professional-Service Firms: Evidence from Law Practice in an Emerging Economy.”
The award was officially announced by Management Research Quarterly on September 5, 2026.
According to MRQ, the award recognises academic excellence and impactful management research, with articles selected by its Scientific Committee based on scientific rigour, theoretical contribution, managerial implications and contribution to the journal’s mission.
“The 2025 Best Paper Award has been given to Sylvester Nyamekye and Abdul Hamid Kwarteng for their study,” MRQ announced.
The study examines how dynamic capabilities contribute to business continuity in professional-service firms and provides theoretically grounded and managerially relevant insights from an emerging-economy context.
The award-winning paper was published in Volume 2, Number 2 of Management Research Quarterly in November 2025, on pages 23–37.

The study investigates how law firms in an emerging economy develop capabilities that enable them to withstand disruptions, adapt to changing conditions and sustain their operations.
The researchers used an interpretivist, inductive multiple-case approach involving 35 semi-structured interviews with partners and managers of law firms in Ghana, supported by documentary evidence and observations.
The study identified several factors contributing to business continuity, including client relationship management, specialisation, strategic planning, effective financial management, talent acquisition and retention, collaboration and networking, market positioning and organisational culture.
Dr Nyamekye is the Founder and Lead Counsel of Nyamekye and Partners, an Accra-based law firm. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2013 after obtaining his Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Sociology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana.
He also holds an MSc in Development Finance, an LLM in Information Technology Law and a Doctorate in Business Administration from IPAG Business School in France.
Dr Nyamekye has also undertaken executive education in Artificial Intelligence and International Finance at Harvard Law School and is pursuing further studies in Maritime Law and Defence and International Politics.
Beyond legal practice and research, Dr Nyamekye founded the Young Leaders Forum, through which he mentors young people in leadership, public speaking and community development.
The recognition adds to his work across legal practice, business, academic research and youth development.
