The Ministry of Education has cautioned final-year Senior High School students across Ghana that vandalism and destruction of school property will not be tolerated following the completion of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a press release dated June 20, 2026, the Ministry warned that acts of indiscipline, including the destruction of school facilities, would attract sanctions.
The caution comes amid concerns over recurring incidents where some students damage school property after writing their final examinations.
“Our schools are spaces where we nurture responsible citizens and future leaders. Destroying school property… is not the kind of conduct we expect from young people preparing to take up leadership responsibilities,” the statement said.
The Ministry urged students to celebrate the completion of their examinations responsibly, noting that their actions have long-term consequences.
It also called on parents, teachers and school authorities to continue instilling values of discipline, respect and civic responsibility in students.
The Ministry further reminded students that school infrastructure, including classrooms, dormitories, doors, windows and sanitation facilities, are public assets funded by taxpayers and must be protected.
“Acts such as the destruction of classroom furniture, dormitory facilities, doors, windows, electrical installations… are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the statement emphasised.
School authorities have been directed to document and report all cases of vandalism through the Ghana Education Service for investigation and necessary action.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting educational infrastructure and ensuring that school facilities remain in good condition for future generations.
