The Parliamentary Select Committee on Security and Intelligence has held an engagement with representatives of the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security on child protection in armed conflict, violent extremism and preventive security measures.
The meeting focused on the protection of children in conflict situations, implementation of the Vancouver Principles, prevention of violent extremism, community resilience, and efforts to protect children from recruitment and use in armed violence.
Discussions also covered the issue of moral injury among military personnel, the role of early warning systems, youth engagement, and the integration of child protection principles into Ghana’s national security framework.
The engagement brought together members of the Committee and officials of the Dallaire Institute, a Canadian organisation that works internationally to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict.
The meeting gave members of the Committee the opportunity to seek clarification on the Institute’s work, assess Ghana’s preparedness in dealing with emerging security threats, and consider possible policy and legislative steps to strengthen preventive security systems.
The discussions are expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to improve child protection and reinforce Ghana’s broader national security response to evolving threats.
