The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has announced a nationwide demonstration for Friday, April 24, 2026, over what it describes as limited teacher recruitment by government.
In a statement issued by its National Secretariat, the Association said the protest will involve teacher trainees and trained teachers within the 2022 to 2024 backlog.
Protest Over Limited Job Opportunities
TTAG said the demonstration is in response to the growing number of trained teachers awaiting employment and the limited opportunities currently available.
The group noted that government’s decision to recruit 7,000 teachers falls far below the number of qualified graduates ready for placement.
Nationwide Action Planned
According to the Association, the demonstration will take place across Colleges of Education nationwide, with a national convergence expected in Accra.
TTAG said the decision followed extensive consultations with its members.
Call for Inclusive Recruitment
The Association said the protest is aimed at pushing for a more responsive and inclusive approach to teacher recruitment.
It added that all necessary security arrangements have been made with relevant authorities to ensure a peaceful and orderly demonstration.
Participation Expected from All Colleges
TTAG expects all 49 colleges of Education to participate in the demonstration with discipline and unity.
Growing Pressure on Authorities
The planned protest is expected to increase pressure on education authorities, as concerns grow over teacher unemployment and staffing shortages in schools.
