The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has unveiled the Legon Leadership Academy (LLA) as part of a vision to develop the leadership capacity of members within the university community.
The LLA initiative aims at enhancing the performance of students, staff, and faculty, thereby contributing to the university’s advancement and innovation in teaching and research. During the launch at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Prof. Appiah Amfo emphasised the imperative of equipping leaders with the agility to address contemporary challenges in a globalized world.
She stressed, “In light of the evolving landscape of higher education and corporate environments, effective leadership is vital to navigate change and drive organizational efficiency.” The initiative, she believes, will nurture leadership potential among university members, enabling them to seize opportunities for growth.
Furthermore, Prof. Appiah Amfo outlined the LLA’s key objectives, which include active involvement of potential leaders in university governance, structured leadership training programs, and promoting the practical application of leadership theories.
The initiative’s training modules, designed not only for university participants but also for external individuals, aim to ensure broad access to leadership development opportunities. Mrs. Yvette Adounvo Atekoe, Guest of Honor and UG Council Member, emphasized the academy’s focus on practical leadership skills essential for addressing real-world challenges.
She remarked, “Leadership training must blend theory with practical application to prepare future leaders for complex global challenges.” In her address, she officially launched the LLA and encouraged participants to embrace their leadership journey wholeheartedly.
Ing. Fredrick Attakumah, Executive Vice President of Asante Gold Corporation and keynote speaker, commended Prof. Appiah Amfo for spearheading the initiative. He emphasized the significant impact of leadership capacity-building on the university and Ghanaian society, applauding the initiative’s potential for long-term positive outcomes.
“Investing in leadership capacity within a strategic institution like the University of Ghana will undoubtedly yield substantial benefits for both the institution and the broader Ghanaian community,” Ing. Attakumah remarked.
