President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians, particularly Muslims, to extend the values of Ramadan beyond the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, describing the occasion as a call to continued discipline, compassion and unity.
Speaking at the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Independence Square in Accra on Friday, March 20, 2026, the President said Eid should not mark the end of the spiritual journey observed during Ramadan, but rather its continuation.
“My brothers and sisters, Eid is not only a celebration, it is a call to continuity. Let us carry forward the spirit of Ramadan in how we treat one another, in how we serve our communities, in how we uphold justice and fairness,” he stated.
President Mahama urged citizens to remain guided by kindness, integrity and compassion, especially towards the vulnerable, stressing that the principles of sacrifice, humility and self-discipline must reflect in everyday life beyond the fasting period.

He congratulated Muslims across Ghana and the world for successfully completing the holy month, describing Eid al-Fitr as a moment of gratitude to Allah.
“Today is a day of gratitude for the strength, patience and faith that carried us through Ramadan,” he added.
Touching on national unity, the President highlighted Ghana’s long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence, noting that religious diversity continues to be a source of strength.
“Our diversity of faith and culture is not a weakness; it is our strength. Muslims and Christians celebrate each other’s holy days and coexist as one people. This harmony is a precious gift, and we must protect it,” he said.
He cautioned against extremism and intolerance, urging citizens to embrace peace, dialogue and unity.
On governance, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development under the Reset Agenda, with a focus on job creation, education, infrastructure, healthcare and support for underserved communities, including Zongo areas.
He emphasised that achieving these goals requires collective effort and called on citizens to support national development.
“Government alone cannot achieve this. We need your partnership, your prayers and your continued commitment to national development,” he noted.
