The Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to upgrading health training institutions into Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree-awarding institutions.
She made this known during an engagement with students of the Nursing and Midwifery Training College at Goaso in the Ahafo Region as part of her working visit to the area.
The visit aimed to enable the Deputy Minister to interact with students and assess their welfare and training conditions.
Addressing the students, Prof. Ayensu-Danquah emphasised that health training institutions are the backbone of quality healthcare delivery, noting that they play a key role in producing competent and professional nurses and midwives.
She explained that the transition to degree-awarding status is intended to improve academic standards, enhance career progression, and align training with modern healthcare needs.
According to her, about 42 health training colleges have completed the required assessments and are currently awaiting accreditation to begin degree programmes.
Students who interacted with the Deputy Minister expressed appreciation for the visit, describing the engagement as encouraging and impactful.
