Former T. I. Amass Student, Emmanuel Dasor Sets 6.68s Record In 60m

Ghanaian 200m and 400m specialist Emmanuel Dasor opened his season with an impressive 6.68s clocking in the 60m final at the Commodore Invitational 2016 and in the process closed in on qualification for the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, USA from 17-20 March.

The Western Kentucky University student won the race ahead of his school team Ja’Karyus Redwine (6.71) and South Alabama’s Rafael Scott (6.72 secs), missing out on the qualifying mark of 6.65s for the World Indoors.

The former T. I. Amass student captured the headlines last year after running the fastest time by a Ghanaian in the 400m in 19 years with a 46.58s(PB) clocking at the Hilltopper Relays in the USA.

Dasor, a 2015 All Africa Games 4x100m relay bronze medalist, told he was astonished about his latest achievement.

“I was surprised when I run that time yesterday but then my coach told me I can go further than that which I believe I can. So I’m working on it,” he said.

Asked about the possibility of qualifying for the World Indoors, he said “It’s part of the plan as well.”

He revealed that he will be running a lot more short sprints this season to improve his performances in his favourite 200m and 400m.

“This year my focus is more on the 200m and 400m but I need to do more 60s indoors and 100 outdoors to better my times in both.”

“This new season has started off on a good note and I’m trying harder to keep improving on my times to encourage myself to do better. And I think I will do more 100m this year to help myself in the 200&400, as I said,” he summed up.
