We Want To Save Students Of University Of Ghana From Fraudsters- UG SRC Gen. Secretary

“We want to save students of University of Ghana from fraudsters”, these are the words of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) General Secretary of the University of Ghana, Felicia Agyei.

In an exclusive interview with ghcampus.com on the free passport registration for students, Miss Felicia Agyei revealed that students travel a lot; some go for internships or vacations and others go for one year program or studies abroad as part of their course requirements. These students need to get a passport, unfortunately most of them usually fall in the hands of passport fraudsters, and the lucky ones fall in the hands of middlemen whose charges are prohibitive and extortionate.

In order to save students from all these troubles and hustles associated with acquiring a passport, the SRC is embarking on a free passport registration exercise for all students.

“The SRC is not acquiring passports for students, registration is free because no student will pay any registration fee as it would have been the case when dealing with middlemen” she stressed and clarified to correct false information put out in the public domain that suggest the SRC to get students free passport.
She added that students who are interested will have to present a correctly filled passport form, biometric birth certificate and a copy of their student ID card.

However, the SRC will transport students to the passport office for their biometric data to be collected and do all the follow ups on their behalf. The actual registration will commence on Friday, 23rd October, 2015 and every other Friday of the week.

“The officers at the passport office are aware of this project, they actually asked us to choose a day of the week and we chose Fridays”

Asked when students should expect their passports, the General Secretary said, the officials at the passport office do not want to give any timelines but assured them that the passports will be ready within a reasonable time frame.
